Araceli Espinoza’s art sent a shock up my spine. Through her art, I learned about a community of women in Mexico (AutoDefensas), that have made a brave decision to step out of conventional roles, to protect their loved ones against harm. Looking at these images made me think about ‘power,’ and it’s role in the progress of womanhood in general and specifically for single mothers.
I’ve been asking myself, How do I embrace my power? What does that look like? How do I bake this process into our programs for single mothers?
Are we powerful enough? What stops women from acting powerful? Are we there yet? Am I there yet?
